Skin Lumps and Bumps

Not Every Lump Needs Removal
Many skin lumps, such as cysts and lipomas are harmless and can be safely observed. During your visit we assess the lump closely, discuss how long it has been present, and arrange imaging or biopsy when indicated.

A Plan Tailored to You

Your treatment may involve reassurance and monitoring or surgical removal if the lump is changing, troublesome, or cosmetically bothersome. If removal is recommended, we explain the procedure, healing expectations, and scarring considerations.

Most skin procedures are carried out at the MacMurray Centre. We discuss whether this is best done under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic and is usually performed as a day stay.

Your consultation

It can be very helpful to bring a family member or friend to your appointment. A support person often picks up details you might miss and can help you think through the information later.

Many patients also find it useful to write down any questions or concerns beforehand. This ensures we cover what matters most to you and allows us to give clear, personalised answers.

Your appointment is your time, and we encourage you to use it in whatever way helps you feel informed and confident.

We will usually give you an information booklet to take away to help you understand your condition and treatment options.

We encourage you to take as much time as you need to reach a decision on your treatment plan.

The MacMurray Center

Many conditions are best managed in an environment where different specialists work together.

The MacMurray Centre brings these teams into one place. Gastroenterologists, surgeons, dieticians, and nurses are all based on site. This creates genuine teamwork and collegiality.

When you come for assessment, your care does not sit in isolation. If another opinion or perspective will help, we can involve the right person quickly.

Your scans and tests can be coordinated efficiently, and your case can be discussed with colleagues who know you and understand your goals.

This collaborative approach means your treatment plan is shaped by several experienced clinicians working together.

The focus is on clear communication, shared decision-making, and delivering the best outcome for you.
