Founders of Compass Surgical, Dr Thomas Hanna and Dr Peter Swan, who partnered in 2023 to provide patient-first general surgery in Auckland.

How Compass Surgical Began

Compass Surgical was founded by Mr. Thomas Hanna and Mr. Peter Swan, two surgeons who share a vision for patient-first care. After working together within the public health system, they saw the opportunity to combine their skills and experience to offer a more personal approach in the private sector. Tom and Peter continue to work together within a wider team doing transplant surgery at Auckland City Hospital

In 2025, they founded Compass Surgical, partnering with the MacMurray Centre, an organisation known for excellence in gastroenterology. Together, they expanded services to provide trusted surgical care built on collaboration, respect, and teamwork.

Compass Surgical works closely with the MacMurray Centre, a leading gastroenterology and surgical facility in Auckland, and we are proud to be part of their multidisciplinary team.
