Mr. Peter Swan grew up in the south of England, where he spent most of his surgical training before moving to New Zealand 12 years ago. From an early age he knew he wanted to become a doctor, drawn to the idea of helping people through hands-on, practical care. Over the years he has developed specialist expertise in multi-organ donor transplantation, acute general surgery, gallbladder surgery, and hernia repair. Peter holds public appointments in Northland and Auckland and has worked alongside Mr. Tom Hanna in the public system for eight years.

In 2022, Peter and Tom were invited to join the MacMurray Centre by Medical Director Alasdair Patrick. The MacMurray Centre is highly regarded in Auckland for its excellence in gastroenterology care but at the time was not offering general surgery services. Working together with the team at MacMurray, Peter and Tom established and grew a service focused on gallbladder and hernia surgery. Their results demonstrated a high standard of safety, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

With the service well established, Peter and Tom moved into their next chapter in 2025, launching Compass Surgical while continuing their close connection with the MacMurray team. Their shared goal remains the same: to provide thoughtful, patient-centred surgical care built on teamwork, communication, and choosing the right treatment for each individual.

Outside of work, Peter enjoys an active lifestyle with his family. He spends much of his time outdoors, often fishing, camping, walking, or watching sports. He believes in doing the right thing, always, and brings that same grounded approach to both his professional and personal life.
